- A Little About Me -

A little background on my life and music. Early childhood memories of my fascination with music begin with an old player piano Mom and Dad had. Put in a roll of paper with perforations, pump the pedals and like magic the keys would move and sweet melodies would play. Bye, Bye Blackbird, Anchors Away, Beer Barrel Polka just a few of dozens and dozens of those piano rolls that introduced me to by-gone era in music.

In The Good Old Summertime, growing up outside Detroit, when the piano was idle there was always a radio somewhere in the house. Mom had "The Big D", the local country-western station of the time, tuned in playing songs like Swingin Doors, The Race Is On, Kiss An Angel Good Morning and the like. Those roots took firm hold but there was more. The Motown sound of the sixties will still make me stop the scan button on the car radio. Indeed a strong influence on my varied musical taste came from the likes of

The Four Tops, Temptations, Supremes, and of course nothing Uptight about Stevie Wonder. Everything Is Alright. By the end of the sixties I was ten, in my early teens I loved Jim Croce and began tinkering with songwriting and poetry. Other artists like Bread, Carole King and Guess Who were some of my favorites. Oh Yeah, I may have been young but I remember THE Ed Sullivan Show. I had a Beatle Tee shirt. Dad called it noise, funny that?s what I call my sons music today. That leads to where I am now in life. My son is my youngest he has an older sister. Both children make my wife, of twenty plus years, and myself very proud. Making music is a family affair around our house. It wouldn?t be unusual to drop in on any given weekend evening and find the family all playing and singing. It was my wife's guitar that I used to teach myself to play. She can still play guitar but prefers her fiddle more these days. Our love for music and of making music has passed on along to our children. It is truly rewarding to listen to and hear them in these expressions. The statement is true; the best music comes from the heart. I remember sitting at that old player piano as kid. Plunking the keys to the melody of the country music in the background. I remember loving the sound of the saxophone and a strong burning desire to learn to play it. My Older brother Mark and his musical taste strongly influenced me. He was a player when I was just a kid I always admired that. I remember an old organ we had he let me try to play ?Southern Man? with him. I remember how cool that made me feel. Besides playing around a little with keyboards and pianos I was always singing. I was in the chorus and that was my instrument, never got serious about the piano. But once I taught myself a few guitar chords and started singing with it. Well, history is in the making.
